Kidney and urinary care that starts early

Kidney disease is common in older cats and dogs and often goes unnoticed until much of the kidney function is lost. We find problems early, treat sudden kidney injury fast, and build long-term plans with diet, fluids and medicine that keep many pets well for years.

    • Peeing more often, or accidents in the house
    • Peeing less, or not at all

    • Vomiting or bad breath
    • Tiredness or weakness

Same-day emergencies

  • A cat straining in the litter box with little or no urine
  • Eating lilies (cats), grapes or raisins (dogs), or antifreeze
  • Sudden collapse or severe vomiting

Early testing greatly improves the chance of recovery.

Chronic kidney disease

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a gradual loss of kidney function, very common in older cats. It can't be reversed, but the right care can slow it and keep pets comfortable.

Our care includes

  • Staging with blood, urine and blood pressure tests
  • Kidney diets and hydration plans
  • Medicines for blood pressure, protein loss, nausea and appetite
  • Phosphate control
  • Rechecks every few months to adjust the plan

Caught early, many pets live well with CKD for years.

What families say

  • Had a really positive experience with Cessna Lifeline Veterinary Hospital. The doctors were extremely caring, patient, and knowledgeable. They took the time to properly explain my pet’s condition and treatment plan without rushing. The staff was polite, responsive, and handled pets with genuine compassion. The clinic is clean, well-maintained, and equipped with good facilities for consultation, diagnostics, grooming, and rehabilitation. What stood out most was the attention and comfort given to pets during treatment — you can tell the team truly loves animals. Highly recommended for anyone looking for trustworthy veterinary care in Bangalore.

  • We rushed our 10 yr old male GSD with bloat to Cessna on the night of April 29th as this was the only vet hospital open 24/7 for emergencies in Bangalore. The vets and staff immediately conducted all the necessary tests to determine that it was GDV and performed Gastropexy surgery at 1 am after explaining all possible outcomes for our pet. Professional and polite vet staff. The place has everything for a pet in distress and I highly recommend this place. We were also allowed to see our pet pre and post surgery for a few minutes and that was reassuring. We got regular video and picture updates about our pet's recovery, consultation from Dr Padam the next day via a phone call about our pet's vitals and discharge was also smooth with guidance on post operative care by the on duty Vet. Thank you for saving the life of our pet. We can never forget this.

  • Best facility to treat your pets, not just doctors like Dr Akshata but vet assistants like Kasim and Pharmasict Shyam are so kind and good at their job. Cessna is a blessing to all pet parents

Questions

Nephrology: questions pet parents ask

Something else on your mind? Call us on +91 76763 65365 or ask at your next visit.

What are the early signs of kidney disease?

Drinking and peeing more are often the first signs, followed by weight loss, a poorer appetite and vomiting. Because signs show late, routine blood and urine tests for older pets help catch it early.

Can kidney disease be cured?

Chronic kidney disease can't be reversed, but it can often be slowed with diet, fluids and medicine. Acute kidney injury is different: many pets recover when treated early, sometimes with dialysis support.

What is haemodialysis?

A machine filters the blood when the kidneys can't, removing waste and balancing fluids. It's used for severe acute kidney injury and some poisonings, to give the kidneys time to recover.

How often does my pet need kidney check-ups?

Usually every 2 to 3 months once kidney disease is diagnosed, depending on the stage and how stable your pet is. For healthy older pets, a yearly blood and urine screen is a good start.
